Lykon provides Automobile Transmission service & repair for Bristol, Levittown, Langhorne, Bensalem, Philadelphia and Bucks County, PA.
In cars, transmissions convert speeds and torques along the drive train. The objective is to maximize the efficiency of the engine which means to achieve low fuel consumption with the greatest performance or torque – and, therefore, driving dynamics.
It's difficult to nail down exactly how your car may sound if there's transmission trouble, but one thing's pretty certain, you'll probably get a that-doesn't-sound-right feeling when you hear it. Every car is built differently, so the sounds they produce can vary greatly, but if you have an automatic transmission, there's a good chance you may hear a whining, humming or even a slight buzzing sound. Transmissions are designed to go into the correct gear every time, so when they hesitate or refuse to go, it's a sure sign there's something wrong.
Here at Lykon's we have trained ASE Certified mechanics trained with the latest information to keep your vehicle and transmission running smoothly.
To control vehicle emissions and improve performance and fuel economy, automobile manufacturers began installing on-board computer systems on vehicles in the late 1970's. This provides a monitoring system that continuously checks the readings from various sensors and turns on the Check Engine or Service Engine soon light when a sensor is not providing the correct information to the computer. Whenever the Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light appears, there is a service code, often called the trouble code, stored in the computer's memory circuit that can be extracted and used to help troubleshoot the problem.
Does your vehicle Buck or feel sluggish, idles rough or stalls, has Poor fuel economy or rough starts... these are just a few of the things that can be fixed with Drivability Diagnosis from our ASE Certified Technicians.
Lykon provides automotive Wheel Alignment services for Bristol, Levittown, Langhorne, Bensalem, Philadelphia and Bucks County, PA.
Why is Wheel Alignment so important? Because of the high cost of gas! A car with a toe angle misadjustment of just .34 degrees (less than a quarter of an inch) out of spec will drag the tires sideways for more than 68 miles in the course of a year. All the "drag" will drain your gas tank that much faster.
At Lykon Automotive, our Hunter Hawkeye digital imaging technology uses four precision cameras to measure the position and orientation mounted on each wheel of your car.
Lykon provides Automobile Oil Change services for Bristol, Levittown, Langhorne, Bensalem, Philadelphia and Bucks County, PA.
Motor oil is responsible for a large percentage of the cooling that takes place within your engine. Your radiator (anti-freeze system) is only responsible for cooling the upper portion of your engine. The rest (crankshaft, camshaft, timing gears, pistons, main and connecting rod bearings and many other critical engine components are cooled mainly by the motor oil within your engine. For maximum protection, most oil companies say to change the oil every 3,000 miles or three to six months regardless of what type of driving you do.
If motor oil is not changed, it gets dirty. If the car has a lot of miles on it, the piston rings may not be as tight as needed, and blow-by gets into the crankcase, which over time dirties the oil. It then makes the oil thicker. Crud in the oil sticks throughout the oil galleys. Once the oil galleys become clogged, the oil cannot drain back down through the engine into the oil pan. The oil builds up in the valve covers, which means there is less oil in the oil pan. Once the galleys are plugged, the bottom of the engine "runs out" of oil (since the oil can't get back down into the bottom). The bearings will seize and the engine will stop running.
Lykon provides PA State Auto Inspection and Emissions testing for the Bristol, Levittown, Langhorne, Bensalem, suburban Philadelphia and Bucks County, PA areas.
The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued rules requiring states to Incorporate OBD I/M Checks into their emissions inspection programs. These checks will modernize Pennsylvania's current vehicle emissions programs and will ensure that today's vehicles continue to generate lower levels of air pollution.
An OBD I/M check can be performed on most 1996 and newer gasoline-powered passenger vehicles, vans and light-duty trucks weighing 8,500 pounds and less, since these vehicles were required to be manufactured by the EPA with the OBD systems.
Why is an emissions inspection necessary for newer model-year vehicles? Vehicles and fuels are cleaner and more efficient than they were 25 years ago, but vehicles are still responsible for about a third of our air pollution problem. Even new vehicles can pollute more than they should if they aren't well maintained. Emissions inspections help make sure that vehicles meet the manufacturer's standards.
What does a motorist gain when repairing emissions-related problems?
• Reduce operating costs through improved fuel economy
• Repair minor problems before they become major, costly repairs
• Protect the capital investment in the vehicle by prolonging its life
• Help ensure proper maintenance and thereby comply with warranty requirements
• Improve air quality: cleaner air for all Pennsylvanians
Your car's brake system is its most critical safety system and you should check it immediately if you suspect any problems. A properly operating brake system helps ensure safe vehicle control and operation under a wide variety of conditions.
Brakes are a normal wear item for any car and eventually they're going to need replacement. Avoid letting your brakes get to the metal-to-metal point, which usually means accelerating expensive rotor or drum replacement. At Lykon Automotive, ASE certified trained Techs will evaluate and provide necessary quality repairs to keep your vehicle braking properly.
